Ways to Support DC EDGE

DC EDGE is the largest, and most successful, synchronized skating organization in the mid-Atlantic region. The support we receive from our sponsors is an undeniable part of our success. This sport is extremely costly, with annual dues running in the thousands of dollars per skater per season.

Funds received from our sponsors help offset the many costs associated with our sport, including travel expenses, competition costs, and additional training needs. In addition, we have established scholarships to recognize our athletes. These scholarships are awarded on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis.

Your philanthropic gift may be tax deductible. DC EDGE is a 501c3. Your contributions will greatly help our athletes and coaches continue to compete at the highest level, while teaching life lessons and skills that focus on respect, community and teamwork.

TEAM USA

DC EDGE has proudly represented Team USA since 2019. This season, our junior team has been assigned to represent the United States at the French Cup in Rouen, France (February 1-3, 2024). Our junior athletes train over 12 hours a week as a team, and an additional 3-4 hours on their own. Philanthropic gifts help underwrite some of the team costs associated with representing the USA at two high-profile international competitions.

Coach Susan’s Spirit Scholarship

Ice skating was Susan Petruccelli’s passion. As a coach, her mission from the beginning was to bring the sport to everyone and to showcase every single skater, while establishing a lasting foundation for synchro in the DC area. Susan’s accomplishments were great, but above all else, she was known for her character. Her dedication, positivity, and commitment to sportsmanship made her a highly respected and adored coach with the Capitol Steps and DC EDGE Synchronized Skating Teams for 25 years.

Susan inspired her skaters to trust in their own confidence. Working with Susan made you believe that anything was possible with hard work. She was always prepared and planned all aspects of team development so that it would culminate at the perfect time, highlighting the great progress and artistry of her teams. She showed a calm, focused presence that was always reassuring and positive. Susan taught how to win with grace and how to be proud of every individual accomplishment. Her legacy lives on in the hundreds of lives she touched. There is not a skater that worked with her that is not changed for having known her.

With dedication, positivity, and sportsmanship, skaters can make a difference in the lives of their teammates as they strive to be their very best and encourage that in others. This scholarship honors high school athletes who show the character values that defined Susan as a person and those that are so valued within a DC EDGE team.

After an application process and review, this scholarship will be awarded annually at the fall DC EDGE kickoff exhibition.

Diversity Scholarship

DC EDGE is the largest synchronized skating program in the Washington, D.C. metro area with over 180 skaters ranging in age and skill level. The program mission of DC EDGE is to guide, train, and empower its athletes to excel on and off the ice with integrity and perseverance. It strives to create a positive, supportive, and inspiring culture for and with its athletes, coaches, and parents.

DC EDGE feels strongly that there is an opportunity and a responsibility for DC EDGE to build a diverse, inclusive, and equitable synchronized skating community. The DC EDGE skating community is diverse – with skaters and coaches from many different backgrounds and perspectives. The DC EDGE Diversity Committee’s mission is to promote within DC EDGE an inherent culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion that educates and empowers all community members to understand and address instances of identity discrimination of any kind and to promote inclusivity and a welcoming environment for all current and former athletes, coaches, and parents.

Part of the mandate of this committee is to establish a Diversity Scholarship for one Black, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC) athlete of any age who is new to synchro or new to DC EDGE to put toward skating or skating-related expenses. The recipient will be chosen based on their demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion both inside and outside of the DC EDGE community. This scholarship signals an appreciation of the contributions and participation of BIPOC athletes in DC EDGE and the sport of synchronized skating. The intention is to award the scholarship annually to one DC EDGE skater, to be presented during DC EDGE’s Kickoff exhibition event in the fall.

General Scholarship and Emergency Fund

Since establishment in 2008, DC EDGE has created a motivating and challenging environment for our skaters to reach their highest potential. Unfortunately, situations sometimes arise that make participating in skating difficult.

This fund will be used to support scholarships as needed, as well as provide an emergency fund for skaters affected by circumstances beyond their control throughout the season. Examples of use could be a parent losing their job or a fire damaging the family home and belongings.

We strive to create a positive, supportive, and inspiring culture for and with our athletes, coaches, and parents. Providing help in a time of need is a commitment to our community.

These funds will be awarded by a vote of the DC EDGE Board.
